6.6 million passengers through Ngurah Rai in a quarter, Rp 176 trillion in tourism earnings, and 5.5 million foreign visitors by September

A week of big numbers: Ngurah Rai Airport reports 6.6 million passengers in the third quarter, and the governor puts Bali's 2025 tourism earnings at Rp 176 trillion. At the same time, fuel supplies returned to Bali's stations, and Kura-Kura Bali set its sights on AI.

The week in brief

  1. Ngurah Rai Airport: 6.6 million passengers in July-September, up 16% on the second quarter
  2. Bali tourism earned Rp 176 trillion in 2025, about 55% of Indonesia's total
  3. About 5.5 million foreign tourists by 30 September; more than 7 million expected for the year
  4. Kura-Kura Bali special zone: Rp 1.8 trillion of accumulated investment in the first half of 2026

Fuel returns to Bali's stations: a tanker brought 20,500 kl, another 26,200 kl is on the way

Many Bali stations had queues for Pertalite and Pertamax because of limited quotas. On Sunday, 11 October, a tanker with 20,500 kiloliters unloaded in Manggis: 18,000 of Pertalite and 2,500 of Pertamax. Pertamina added a further 26,200 kiloliters. Ships arrive on 12, 14 and 16 October at the Denpasar and Karangasem terminals. The island uses about 2,200 kiloliters of Pertalite a day on average. Officials expect a return to normal within one or two days.

What it means: The disruption is a one-off, and supplies are restored within a couple of days. Ask the management company how it arranges guest transfers on days like these.

Two foreigners deported from Denpasar for working as doctors without an ITAS or license

The Denpasar immigration office deported two foreigners. They had arrived in July on a visit visa. They then secretly treated patients at a private clinic in Denpasar without a residence permit or a medical license. The check began after tips from residents. The basis is Law No. 6 of 2011 on immigration, which allows administrative measures and deportation for breaking local rules.

What it means: Working on a visit visa is prohibited; a work ITAS is required. This matters for anyone thinking of running rentals or a business in Bali themselves.

The Kura-Kura Bali special zone aims to become an AI hub: accumulated investment of Rp 1.8 trillion

The government wants to turn the Kura-Kura Bali special economic zone into a hub for AI and semiconductors. The bet rests on cooperation with the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center, which already runs physics and neuroscience programs in the zone. In the first half of 2026, accumulated investment reached Rp 1.8 trillion. The zone employs 2,173 people and has recorded 131,657 visits. Indonesia has 25 special zones in all.

What it means: The zone is growing as a separate business destination on the island. Sites like this tend to create demand for medium-term rentals over time.

International flights accounted for 4.3 million passengers and domestic flights for 2.3 million. Over nine months, 17.6 million people passed through the airport, about 64,000 a day. Eight new routes opened in the quarter, among them Beijing-Daxing and Phuket. Australia sent the most foreign visitors, 1.3 million, followed by China and India.

Bali received 5.5 million foreigners by 30 September; the governor expects more than 7 million for the year

The governor expects Bali to receive more than 7 million foreign visitors in 2026. By 30 September, about 5.5 million foreign tourists had arrived on the island. The flow slowed at the start of the year, but monthly data show a recovery. According to the governor, expensive tickets and accommodation are changing tourists' routes and spending. He spoke at the congress of the ASITA Bali travel agents' association in Jimbaran.

What it means: Foreign tourists are the main support of short-term rental demand. A recovery in the second half of the year helps villa occupancy in the high season.

Bali tourism brought in Rp 176 trillion in foreign currency; the governor asks for 5% for infrastructure

The governor spoke at the opening of Indonesia Tourism Marketing Week in Sanur. In 2025, Bali tourism earned Rp 176 trillion in foreign-currency revenue. That is about 55% of the national Rp 319.9 trillion. The governor asked the central government to return at least 5% of that sum to the island for infrastructure. Tourism makes up 66% of Bali's economy, and the island received 16.3 million visitors in 2025. He named traffic, waste, transport and protecting farmland as the main tasks.

What it means: If the money is allocated, roads and transport in tourist areas will be first in line. That would support property prices where traffic is a drag today.

Piraeus handles up to 30 liners at once: Denpasar wants its experience for Benoa

Denpasar signed a cooperation memorandum with the Greek city of Piraeus. The city wants to study how the port and cruise liners are managed there. According to city hall, the port of Piraeus takes 20 to 30 large vessels at the same time. Cruises helped restaurants and cafes grow around that port. The central government plans to turn Benoa Port into a marina hub. Denpasar's deputy mayor considers the Piraeus experience useful for those plans.

What it means: Developing Benoa as a marina will bring more affluent guests to Sanur, Serangan and Nusa Dua. For rental housing nearby, that is a long-term plus.
