Rp 4 trillion needed for 85 km of Bali coast, France takes third place with 41,937 visits, and the Benoa cruise pier grows to 500 m

A week of coast, water and visitors: Badung speeds up a pedestrian zone and beach protection in Kuta, while southern Bukit looks for a lasting water solution. France moved into third place among Bali's visitors, and Benoa Port extended its cruise pier for the 2026/27 season.

The week in brief

  1. Kuta coast: 85 km still critical, estimated at Rp 4 trillion; Rp 1.2 trillion already spent on 130 km
  2. August arrivals: 41,937 French visitors, up 20.42%, ahead of India at 34,837
  3. Six low-emission zones approved for 2026-2030, including Kuta, Ubud, Sanur and Nusa Dua
  4. Benoa cruise pier extended from 350 to 500 m; 76 liners expected in 2026

France is now third among Bali's visitors: 41,937 visits in August

In August 2026, 41,937 French visitors came to Bali, up 20.42%. France overtook India, with 34,837 visits, to take third place. Only Australia (161,258) and China (47,613) are ahead. The tourism office links the growth to the heat in Europe and the summer holidays. French visitors go to Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud. In total, 685,994 foreigners arrived in August. Preliminary figures put the nine-month total at 5.2 million.

What it means: The guest base is widening thanks to Europeans. That supports rental demand in Canggu, Seminyak and Ubud.

Benoa Port is ready for the 2026/27 cruise season: the pier grows from 350 to 500 m

Benoa Port in Denpasar has prepared its services for the 2026/2027 cruise season. The eastern cruise pier was extended from 350 to 500 meters and can now take two large liners at once. The port works both as an embarkation and a disembarkation point. The season opened with the liner Heritage Adventurer, carrying 90 passengers and 84 crew. In 2025 there were 65 calls and 140,000 foreign tourists. For 2026, 76 liners are scheduled.

What it means: Cruises are another channel of visitors that does not depend on flights. For the island's market, that is an added support.

Bali approves six low-emission zones: Kuta, Ubud, Sanur, Nusa Dua, Nusa Penida and central Denpasar

The province and four regencies signed an agreement on low-emission zones for 2026-2030. The list covers Nusa Dua, Nusa Penida, Kuta, Ubud, Sanur and the historic Jalan Gajah Mada in Denpasar. The basis is Governor's Decree No. 912/04/B/HK/2026 of 6 October. The zones were chosen by visitor numbers. They bring separate waste collection, limits on single-use plastic and solar generation. Public and tourist transport is asked to switch to electric vehicles.

What it means: Hotels and villas in these areas are likely to face new requirements on waste, plastic and energy. Build them into the budget and the management agreement.

Kuta Selatan went a week without clean water: officials look at desalination and wastewater recycling

Residents of Kuta Selatan were without clean water for about a week. The province asked Badung regency to make it a first priority. The regent explains the crisis by groundwater falling short for a growing population. Officials are considering seawater desalination, which already operates in Klungkung, and wastewater recycling with membrane bioreactors. For Pecatu, desalination is seen as the best option. For now, more pipes are being added in the area to lift water onto the hills.

What it means: Water is the main engineering question on the Bukit. Before you buy, ask where the water comes from: a well, the network or deliveries by tanker.

Kuta speeds up its pedestrian zone and beach protection: 85 km of coast needs Rp 4 trillion

Badung regency is speeding up a project along the Kuta-Legian-Seminyak coast. It includes a pedestrian zone and beach restoration. According to the Ministry of Public Works, Bali's coastline is 633 km long, and erosion has affected about 215 km. From 2007 to 2025, Rp 1.2 trillion was spent on 130 km. Another 85 km remain critical and are estimated at Rp 4 trillion.

What it means: The Kuta beach and promenade underpin rental demand nearby. If you buy close to the water, ask the developer about the condition of the shoreline.
